Types of erasers
Erasers are essential tools for removing pencil marks, and they come in various forms designed to suit different needs. Knowing their features helps users choose the best eraser for the job. The main types of eraser include:

  • Rubber or Vinyl Erasers:
These types of eraser raw material are commonly used and made from synthetic rubber or vinyl. They are suitable for removing graphite marks and are often firm and durable. However, they can damage softer paper surfaces, so caution is needed when using them.
  • Pencil Top Erasers:
These come attached to the top of the pencils. They are small and convenient for light corrections. They are usually made from synthetic rubber or vinyl and are attached to the pencil’s end for easy access. They come in various materials, such as thermoplastic rubber or vinyl. They are suitable for minor corrections but may not be effective on larger areas.
  • Plastic or Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Erasers:
These erasers are made from a blend of PVC and other materials to create a softer texture for effective graphite removal without damaging the paper. They are lightweight and easy to use. They are available in various shapes and sizes, making them versatile for different writing surfaces.
  • Kneadable Erasers:
These are made from a type of putty-like material that can be shaped or molded by hand. They are excellent for picking up graphite dust from pencil shading and for gently removing marks without damaging the paper. They work well on delicate surfaces and can be reused multiple times.
  • Vinyl Erasers:
These are soft and flexible and can be used on all types of paper without leaving much residue. They are great for both light and heavy corrections. They do not damage the surface, so they are ideal for delicate papers or artwork.
